Welcome to Burgh St Margaret, Billockby and Clippesby

Fleggburgh is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk.  It is situated to the west of the Trinity Broads complex within the Broads National Park, some 12km north-west of the town Great Yarmouth and 25km east of the city of Norwich.

The civil parish includes the villages of Burgh St Margaret (Also known as Fleggburgh), Billockby and Clippesby and in the 2001 census had a population of 909 in 397 households with the population increasing to 948 in 417 households in the 2011 census, and approx 1,100 in 470 households in the 2021 census.  Within local government the parish falls within the district of Great Yarmouth. Fleggburgh Parish Council are effectively the third tier of local government, the other two being Norfolk County Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

The parish council is made up of 9 councillors, that make decisions on behalf of the people and has an overall responsibility for the well-being of  its local community. As it is the authority closest to the people, parish councils are invariably the first place people will go with concerns or ideas. Parish councils are a vital part of any community and its work falls into three main categories:

  • Representing the local community.

  • Delivering services to meet local needs.

  • Striving to improve quality of life in the parish.

Parish councils make all kinds of decisions on issues that affect the local community. Probably the most common topics that Parish councils get involved with are planning matters, crime prevention, helping local groups, managing open spaces and campaigning for and delivering better services and facilities.

On their own parish councils have limited powers to make decisions. But they do have the ability to negotiate with, and the power to influence, those other organisations that do make the final decisions (such as borough council, county council etc).

In this respect a parish councils can be extremely powerful. The organisations that make the final decisions know that a parish council gives the best reflection of how a community feels about something, and its views will be taken seriously.

The parish council meetings are usually held every other month (see Meetings) at 7.30pm in Fleggburgh Village Hall. Please see agenda for details of meeting.  Everyone is very welcome to attend our meetings.
